In south Florida we typically find ourselves dealing with windy conditions in March and the first week or two leading into April. Despite challenging conditions, our guided fishing trips are still successfully targeting snook, redfish and tarpon throughout the Everglades National Park. We have also experienced some later cold fronts that we didn't have last year which tend to put a slow down on the tarpon activity, prompting our fishing charters to pivot toward other species like triple tail and cobia which have been quite abundant.
As it warms up the two to three days after the cold front and the wind settles down, sight fishing for snook and redfish become a lot more bearable and the tarpon come alive! Our professional fly fishing guides specialize in these prime windows of opportunity. In addition to the Everglades being a great option this time of year, Biscayne Bay fishing charters have been nothing short of epic, especially when we're talking bonefish. The lower tides bring in tailing fish, allowing for easier sight fishing opportunities particularly for fly fishing enthusiasts. The permit are definitely around as well! Throwing live crabs this time of year is recommended for the windier days but the fly fishing opportunities are there also, just need to pick the right day or really hone in on that double haul! Our guided fishing trips can accommodate both conventional and fly fishing approaches depending on conditions. As winter releases its grip on South Florida, Biscayne Bay transforms into one of the world's premier fishing destinations. The spring season, spanning March through May, represents the absolute pinnacle for anglers targeting the bay's legendary gamefish. With warming waters and consistent weather patterns, Captains Ryan Booth and Austin Abercrombie's Biscayne Bay fishing charters are putting clients on exceptional action across multiple trophy species throughout the bay's diverse ecosystem.
The spring transformation in Biscayne Bay creates a perfect storm of fishing opportunities for those booking Biscayne Bay fishing charters. Water temperatures stabilizing in the mid-70s trigger increased activity across all species, while the notorious winter winds begin to moderate, providing more consistent fishing conditions. This combination of factors makes spring the most productive and versatile season for Biscayne Bay fishing charters. "There's simply no better time to be on Biscayne Bay than spring," explains Captain Ryan Booth, who runs specialized Biscayne Bay fishing charters targeting multiple species. "We're seeing multiple species active on the same day, often on the same flat. One minute you might be casting to tailing bonefish, and the next you're switching rods for a permit cruising through. The variety and quality of fishing opportunities this time of year is unmatched for our charter clients." Captain Austin Abercrombie, whose Biscayne Bay fishing charters focus on trophy pursuits, adds, "What makes spring so special in Biscayne Bay is the consistency. We're not battling the severe cold fronts of winter or the extreme heat and afternoon thunderstorms of summer. Spring gives us longer fishing windows with stable conditions, which translates to more opportunities for our Biscayne Bay fishing charter clients." Biscayne Bay's bonefish population truly shines during spring months. These elusive speedsters become more active as water temperatures rise, often tailing aggressively during lower tides on the expansive flats. Biscayne Bay fishing charters targeting these gray ghosts have reported exceptional success in recent weeks. "April and May represent prime time for Biscayne Bay bonefish," notes Captain Booth, whose fishing charters frequently target these prized gamefish. "We're finding excellent numbers of fish on the western flats, particularly during the lower tides when they're more concentrated and visible. The average size has been impressive too, with most fish in the 6-8 pound class and several double-digit specimens landed by our charter clients this season." Successful spring bonefish tactics on Biscayne Bay fishing charters involve focusing on warming flat systems, particularly areas with darker bottom that heat up faster. Small crabs, shrimp patterns, and well-presented artificial lures have all been productive, with the fish showing increased willingness to chase down presentations as their metabolism increases with warming waters. Perhaps no fishing experience in Biscayne Bay rivals the challenge and reward of connecting with a permit on the flats. Spring coincides with increased permit activity as these discerning gamefish prepare for their spawning rituals, creating prime opportunities for specialized Biscayne Bay fishing charters targeting these coveted trophies. "The permit fishing on our Biscayne Bay charters this spring has been exceptional," reports Captain Abercrombie. "We're seeing good numbers of fish both on the oceanside flats and in the interior basins. What's been particularly exciting is the size of the permit we're encountering on our fishing charters—many fish in the 15-25 pound range with several approaching 30 pounds landed by our clients this season." Spring permit tactics on Biscayne Bay fishing charters focus on identifying feeding patterns tied to specific tide phases. Live crabs remain the gold standard for bait, though fly anglers have found success with crab patterns presented precisely to cruising fish. The warming spring waters increase permit feeding activity, creating more opportunities for successful presentations during guided fishing charters. The arrival of migratory tarpon represents one of spring's most anticipated events for Biscayne Bay fishing charters. Beginning in late March and building through April and May, these magnificent gamefish offer the ultimate test of angling skill and equipment for charter clients. "We're seeing the first major push of migratory tarpon on our Biscayne Bay fishing charters right now," explains Captain Booth. "The oceanside flats and channels near the bay's eastern edge have been holding good numbers of fish in the 60-120 pound class. As we move deeper into May, we expect the numbers and size of tarpon to increase substantially for our charter clients." Tactics for spring tarpon on Biscayne Bay fishing charters focus on intercepting migratory fish along established travel corridors. Early morning and late afternoon provide peak activity periods when the silver kings are more likely to roll, revealing their locations. Live bait presentations with mullet, pinfish, and crabs have been most productive, though some tarpon have been taking well-presented artificial lures during optimal conditions. While bonefish, permit, and tarpon often capture the spotlight, Biscayne Bay's snook and redfish populations provide outstanding supplementary action during spring months for those on fishing charters. These species often complete what captains refer to as the "inshore grand slam." "The snook fishing on our Biscayne Bay charters this spring has been remarkably consistent," notes Captain Abercrombie. "We're finding quality fish along mangrove shorelines and creek mouths, particularly during the first few hours of the falling tide. Several of our charter clients have landed snook exceeding 15 pounds this season, with most fish in the 8-12 pound class." Redfish activity has also increased with spring's arrival, with schools becoming more visible on specific flats throughout the bay. These copper-colored gamefish have been particularly active during lower tide phases when they become more concentrated in predictable areas, creating excellent opportunities for Biscayne Bay fishing charters. "What makes spring so exciting for our Biscayne Bay fishing charters is the legitimate chance at a grand slam or even a super grand slam," adds Captain Booth. "We've had several charter trips this season where clients have landed bonefish, permit, tarpon, and redfish all in the same day—the kind of diverse fishing experience that makes Biscayne Bay fishing charters so special." For anglers looking to experience the world-class spring fishing opportunities in Biscayne Bay, securing dates with experienced fishing charter captains is essential. Captains Ryan Booth and Austin Abercrombie offer specialized Biscayne Bay fishing charters targeting all of the bay's premier gamefish. "Spring represents our busiest season for Biscayne Bay fishing charters, and for good reason," explains Captain Abercrombie. "The fishing quality combined with the more predictable weather makes these months incredibly popular. We recommend booking your Biscayne Bay fishing charter well in advance to secure prime dates, particularly for those interested in the peak tarpon migration in May." Full-day Biscayne Bay fishing charters provide the optimal experience, allowing time to target multiple species and adapt to changing conditions throughout the day. Both captains emphasize the importance of flexibility during spring trips, as the diversity of fishing opportunities allows for targeting whatever species are most active on a given day. Both Captains Booth and Abercrombie maintain a strong conservation ethic on their Biscayne Bay fishing charters, emphasizing responsible catch-and-release practices for the bay's valuable gamefish. "We're fortunate to have this incredible fishery in our backyard for our charter clients," notes Captain Booth. "Practicing proper fish handling techniques and educating our Biscayne Bay fishing charter clients about the importance of conservation ensures these fishing opportunities remain available for future generations." This conservation focus includes using appropriate tackle to minimize fight times, proper fish handling to reduce stress, and supporting ongoing research efforts to better understand and protect Biscayne Bay's ecosystem. For those seeking the ultimate spring fishing adventure in one of the world's most diverse and productive fisheries, Biscayne Bay fishing charters deliver unparalleled opportunities. The combination of multiple trophy species, improving conditions, and the expert guidance of experienced captains creates the perfect recipe for unforgettable fishing experiences. Season is getting busier and busier! Fishing is gradually getting hotter and hotter!
Right now this time of year the we are finishing up little spurts of cold fronts in south Florida! These cold fronts help sometimes stall the tarpon migration so they group up thicker in Everglades National park! Helps keep the bait run going! EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK FISHING CHARTERS Last few trips the weather has been great with occasional day of more wind then normal which isn’t a problem! Early morning and mid day have been spectacular for Tarpon fishing. We set out early in morning and if water temps are cooler then we target snook and redfish on the flats or in and around the mangroves. Then once that water temp reaches the right temp it’s time to switch gears and go chase the silver! The trout bite in flamingo has been spectacular usually the by catch while fishing for tarpon! The snook bite continue to be steady and tides are starting to fill in more so making sight fishing better and better! ISLAMORADA FISHING CHARTERS With islamorada being close to Everglades national park that makes it easier to chase bonefish and shoot over to chase snook redfish and tarpon. This past week we had some nice days where we were able to sight fish those early migration tarpon on the bay! Once the wind picked up it made it harder to sight fish then and that’s when we transition to running the extra 15 mins to chase tarpon on the flamingo side of the bay! However bonefishing has been amazing! Smaller fish but schooled up and hungry especially on the right tide! Whether we are throwing fly or tossing jig at them we have had multiple fish days! We have came across a few permit doing there thing in the deeper water but as the water temps rise these fish will be happy and showing up more on the flat! BISCAYNE BAY FISHING CHARTERS Biscayne bay is an interesting place offering bonefish and permit with juvenile tarpon around! However when the migration starts to happen this will be a great place to put it all together! Bone fishing has been spectacular in Biscayne bay! The bay seems to be holding bigger bonefish then the upper middle keys. But they can be tricky at times! But the permit love the flats here with the water flow and the reef and wrecks not being far allows them to come in and feed and jump right back out to the wrecks. Although we offer fishing in Everglades national park, Biscayne bay and islamorada. We also do trips to chase peacock bass and large mouth bass in fly and spin! The bite has been great for peacocks! This week Austin had a group chasing peacocks. They did great with largemouth and catching so decent size peacocks! As the weather starts to normalize and the water temps get back to regular fishing will get better and better! |
