South Florida Fishing Charter Report: Tarpon Migration Heating Up in Everglades, Islamorada, and Biscayne Bay

3/5/2025

Season is getting busier and busier! Fishing is gradually getting hotter and hotter!
Right now this time of year the we are finishing up little spurts  of cold fronts in south Florida! These cold fronts help sometimes stall the tarpon migration so they group up thicker in Everglades National park! Helps keep the bait run going!

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK FISHING CHARTERS
Last few trips the weather has been great with occasional day of more wind then normal which isn’t a problem! Early morning and mid day have been spectacular for Tarpon fishing. We set out early in morning and if water temps are cooler then we target snook and redfish on the flats or in and around the mangroves. Then once that water temp reaches the right temp it’s time to switch gears and go chase the silver! The trout bite in flamingo has been spectacular usually the by catch while fishing for tarpon! The snook bite continue to be steady and tides are starting to fill in more so making sight fishing better and better!

ISLAMORADA FISHING CHARTERS
With islamorada being close to Everglades national park that makes it easier to chase bonefish and shoot over to chase snook redfish and tarpon. This past week we had some nice days where we were able to sight fish those early migration tarpon on the bay! Once the wind picked up it made it harder to sight fish then and that’s when we transition to running the extra 15 mins to chase tarpon on the flamingo side of the bay!

However bonefishing has been amazing! Smaller fish but schooled up and hungry especially on the right tide! Whether we are throwing fly or tossing jig at them we have had multiple  fish days! We have came across a few permit doing there thing in the deeper water  but as the water temps rise these fish will be happy and showing up more on the flat!

BISCAYNE BAY FISHING CHARTERS
Biscayne bay is an interesting place offering bonefish and permit with juvenile tarpon around! However when the migration starts to happen this will be a great place to put  it all together! Bone fishing  has  been spectacular in Biscayne bay! The bay seems to be holding bigger bonefish then the upper middle keys. But they can be tricky at times! But the permit love the flats here with the water flow and the reef and wrecks not being far allows them to come in and feed and jump right back out to the wrecks.

Although we offer fishing in Everglades national park, Biscayne bay and islamorada. We also do trips to chase peacock bass and large mouth bass in fly and spin! The bite has been great for peacocks! This week Austin had a group chasing peacocks. They did great with largemouth and catching so decent size peacocks!

As the weather starts to normalize and the water temps get back to regular fishing will get better and better!

South Florida's Premier Fishing Season Arrives: Tarpon, Bonefish, and More!

The fishing charter waters of Biscayne Bay, Islamorada, and Everglades National Park are awakening with the warmth of spring, ushering in one of the most anticipated seasons for charter fishing. As the last cold fronts fade away, our fishing charters are witnessing an extraordinary feeding pattern along the coast of Everglades Flamingo and bayside Islamorada, with trophy gamefish becoming increasingly active.

Tarpon season has officially begun, with silver kings making their presence known throughout our waters. Recent charter outings in Flamingo have produced exceptional numbers, whether casting flies or working artificial lures. What makes this charter fishing period particularly special is the simultaneous peak in activity across multiple species. While tarpon command attention on our charters, the bonefish flats are producing epic encounters, and the snook and redfish bite remains consistently strong.

Our Islamorada fishing charters are experiencing legendary bonefish action on the flats. On cloudy days, we're adapting our charter approaches between sight fishing and using select baits like shrimp and crabs, ensuring productive trips regardless of conditions. The fish are responding well to both strategies, providing exciting opportunities for charter clients of all skill levels.

This pre-summer window offers ideal conditions for fishing charters, with comfortable temperatures and predictable wind patterns. While we're anticipating possibly our final weak cold front of the season, even these weather changes are working to our advantage, as the fish maintain their aggressive feeding patterns. The cooler mornings create perfect conditions for extended charter days on the water, particularly in Everglades National Park, where early starts are yielding exceptional results as fish feed actively in the dawn hours.

For those looking to book a charter to check tarpon or bonefish off their bucket list, this period presents some of the year's best opportunities. The consistent feeding patterns and generally favorable conditions make it an ideal time for both novice and experienced anglers to pursue these prestigious gamefish on our charters. While we're not yet in the peak charter season of April through June, booking early is recommended to secure prime dates.

Experience the magic of spring fishing in South Florida's most productive waters. Contact Captain Ryan Booth at 305-606-4551 to plan your next fishing charter adventure in Biscayne Bay, Islamorada, or Everglades National Park.

Let's embark on a journey through South Florida's most legendary fishing grounds, where pristine wilderness meets world-class angling opportunities.

Everglades National Park: Where Giants Roam
The Everglades represents one of the most unique ecosystems on Earth. This "River of Grass" spans over 1.5 million acres of pristine wilderness, creating a labyrinth of mangrove islands, shallow flats, and hidden channels teeming with gamefish. Here, salt and freshwater merge to create the perfect habitat for some of Florida's most sought-after species.

Seasonal Fishing Patterns: Spring (March-May): Prime tarpon season kicks into high gear. Silver kings ranging from 60-150 pounds cruise the channels and backcountry waters. Snook begin their pre-spawn pattern, providing exceptional sight-fishing opportunities along mangrove shorelines.

Summer (June-August): Peak time for permit on the flats, while redfish schools gather in bigger numbers. Early mornings offer outstanding topwater action for snook and tarpon. The deeper channels hold steady populations of mangrove snapper and grouper.

Fall (September-November): Redfish action reaches its peak as schools of bronze-colored bulls patrol the shallow flats. Snook fishing remains consistent, and early season cold fronts trigger excellent trout action.

Winter (December-February): Spectacular sight-fishing conditions for redfish and black drum. Sea trout gather in deeper holes, while sheepshead and pompano provide steady action around structure.

Flamingo: The Gateway to Backcountry Paradise
Located at the southernmost tip of mainland Florida, Flamingo serves as the perfect launching point for exploring the park's most remote and productive waters. This area offers unmatched access to both Florida Bay and the backcountry, where anglers can target:
  • Tarpon (peak season March-July)
  • Snook (year-round, best April-October)
  • Redfish (peak September-December)
  • Sea Trout (best December-March)
  • Black Drum (winter months)
  • Sharks (year-round)

Biscayne Bay: Crystal Clear Flats Fishing
The gin-clear waters of Biscayne Bay offer some of the best sight-fishing opportunities in the world. This vast expanse of shallow flats and channels provides the perfect habitat for:
  • Bonefish (peak April-October)
  • Permit (best March-June)
  • Tarpon (March-July)
  • Barracuda (year-round)

The bay's extensive network of flats allows for technical poling and sight-fishing opportunities that challenge even the most experienced anglers.

Islamorada: The Sport Fishing Capital

Known as the "Sport Fishing Capital of the World," Islamorada offers diverse fishing opportunities from shallow water flats to offshore adventures. The area's unique geography creates multiple fishing environments within minutes of each other:
  • Ocean-side flats for permit and bonefish
  • Bridge channels for tarpon
  • Backcountry for snook and redfish
  • Patch reefs for snappers and groupers

What to Expect on Your Trip
Every charter is customized to your preferences and skill level. Whether you're an experienced angler looking to sight-fish for permit on the flats or a family wanting to bend rods and catch dinner, we'll create the perfect experience for you.
