Target Species: Your Biscayne Bay Fly Fishing Adventure with Captain Ryan Booth

Biscayne Bay's diverse marine ecosystem creates a fly fishing paradise where anglers can pursue multiple species in a single charter. Captain Ryan Booth's intimate knowledge of these waters positions guests for encounters with some of the most sought-after gamefish in South Florida. From the shallow grass flats to deeper channels, each area of the bay holds different species with unique behaviors and feeding patterns, ensuring every Biscayne Bay fishing charter offers variety and excitement for fly fishing enthusiasts.

Tarpon are undoubtedly the crown jewel of Biscayne Bay fishing charters, and Captain Booth knows exactly where to find these magnificent fish throughout the year. These prehistoric giants, often weighing 80-150 pounds, provide heart-stopping moments as they crash through the surface in spectacular aerial displays. During peak season, tarpon move through the bay in large schools, feeding aggressively on baitfish and crabs. Captain Booth positions anglers along migration routes and feeding areas, using his expertise to time approaches perfectly. Landing a tarpon on fly gear represents the pinnacle of saltwater fly fishing achievement, requiring precise casting, strong tackle, and nerves of steel as these powerful fish make blistering runs and gravity-defying jumps.

Bonefish earn their reputation as one of fly fishing's most challenging and rewarding targets, and Biscayne Bay fishing charters provide world-class bonefishing opportunities. These silvery speedsters cruise the shallow water in search of crabs, shrimp, and worms, their presence often revealed only by subtle nervous water or barely visible tails. Captain Booth's trained eye spots these elusive fish from remarkable distances, positioning anglers for the perfect presentation. Bonefish demand accurate casting and delicate fly presentation, rewarding successful anglers with screaming runs across the flats that can strip line from reels in seconds. The combination of stealth required for the approach and explosive power once hooked makes bonefish a favorite among serious fly anglers on Biscayne Bay fishing charters.

Permit represent perhaps the most difficult species to catch on fly in Biscayne Bay, earning them legendary status among accomplished anglers who book fishing charters with Captain Booth. These disc-shaped fish cruise the flats in small groups or as singles, their tall black dorsal fins cutting through shallow water as they search for crabs and other bottom-dwelling prey. Captain Booth understands permit behavior intimately, knowing their preferred feeding areas and the specific conditions that trigger feeding activity. Permit are notoriously spooky and selective, often inspecting flies multiple times before either taking or refusing the offering. Successfully hooking a permit on fly requires perfect fly selection, precise casting, and incredible patience, making each landed fish a trophy worthy of celebration during Biscayne Bay fishing charters.

Redfish provide consistent action throughout the year in Biscayne Bay, making them perfect targets for anglers of all skill levels on fishing charters with Captain Ryan Booth. These copper-colored bruisers patrol shallow flats, mangrove shorelines, and oyster bars, aggressively feeding on crabs, shrimp, and small fish. Captain Booth locates redfish by looking for their distinctive bronze backs and black spotted tails as they root through bottom sediment in search of food. Unlike the more finicky permit and bonefish, redfish readily take well-presented flies and provide strong, determined fights with powerful runs and head-shaking battles. Their willingness to eat and fighting ability make redfish an excellent species for introducing newcomers to saltwater fly fishing while still providing excitement for experienced anglers on Biscayne Bay fishing charters.

The mangrove shorelines and structure throughout Biscayne Bay hold excellent populations of snook and various jack species, adding diversity to any fishing charter with Captain Booth. Snook lurk in shadows beneath overhanging mangroves, ambushing baitfish and crustaceans that venture too close to cover. These ambush predators strike flies with explosive force, then immediately attempt to wrap lines around mangrove roots or other structure. Captain Booth positions his boat for optimal casting angles while maintaining enough distance to avoid spooking these wary fish. Jack crevalle and other jack species roam the bay in schools, creating exciting opportunities when located during Biscayne Bay fishing charters. These powerful fish test tackle and angler endurance with sustained fights that showcase their incredible stamina and strength.

Biscayne Bay's waters host numerous other species throughout the year, providing exciting bonus catches during targeted Biscayne Bay fishing charters. Barracuda patrol the flats and deeper water, striking flies with lightning speed and providing spectacular jumps and long runs. Sharks, including blacktip and lemon sharks, cruise the shallows and offer thrilling encounters for adventurous anglers. Seasonal visitors like cobia, tripletail, and various smaller species add elements of surprise to every charter. Captain Booth's extensive local knowledge helps identify feeding activity and seasonal patterns that increase opportunities for these bonus catches, ensuring every Biscayne Bay fishing charter holds potential for unexpected excitement.

Captain Ryan Booth's expertise in locating and presenting flies to these diverse species makes every Biscayne Bay fishing charter an educational and thrilling experience. His understanding of seasonal movements, feeding behaviors, and optimal fishing conditions maximizes opportunities for multiple species encounters, creating memorable adventures that showcase the incredible diversity of South Florida's premier fly fishing destination. Whether you're booking your first Biscayne Bay fishing charter or you're a seasoned angler returning for another adventure, Captain Booth ensures each trip delivers the world-class fishing experience that makes Biscayne Bay fishing charters legendary among fly fishing enthusiasts.

Biscayne Bay Fishing Charters: Summer Flats Fishing Report - Tailing Reds, Laid-Up Snook & Keys Permit Action

Picture
Now that the tarpon migration push has slowed, our Biscayne Bay fishing charters are still finding plenty of poons holding in the backcountry glades during those magical early morning hours - perfect for chasing them on both fly and spin tackle. Plus, don't forget we've got those resident tarpon sticking around year-round, so the silver king action on our Biscayne Bay fishing charters never truly stops!

The flats fishing has been absolutely dialed in for our Biscayne Bay fishing charters! Redfish and snook action has been nothing short of spectacular, with wake-happy tailing reds prowling the skinny water and laid-up snook positioning perfectly on the incoming high tides. We're fishing productively until about 2 PM before the South Florida heat forces us to call it a day.

Down in the Keys, our extended Biscayne Bay fishing charters have been experiencing absolutely phenomenal bonefishing! We're getting multiple quality shots per trip on fly, with plenty of solid releases on spin gear for those looking to bend the rod. And then there's the holy grail - permit! While they're always one of our most challenging species, this time of year offers some incredible opportunities on our Biscayne Bay fishing charters. We're finding them tailing on the flats for both fly and live crab presentations, but we're also running offshore to the Gulf side when conditions align, targeting them around the smaller wrecks and intercepting cruising fish throughout the Florida Bay backcountry.

What I love most about our Biscayne Bay fishing charters is the incredible diversity and consistency - no matter what time of year, there's always something exciting happening beneath the surface. The fish are always doing their thing, and we're here to help you get dialed in on the action!

Everglades National Park & Florida Keys Fishing Report

7/18/2025

As we roll through mid-July, the tarpon migration is winding down, but that doesn’t mean the action is. There are still plenty of fish to be found, especially around Islamorada and deeper into Flamingo and Florida Bay. We’re seeing a steady transition into our summer species lineup, and the bite is heating up right alongside the weather.

We’re now locked into our classic summertime weather pattern—with a mix of occasional rain and flat calm days that light the flats on fire. When the wind lays down and the sun’s out, the fish get happy.

In Everglades National Park, we’ve had solid success poling the edges and interior flats, finding tailing redfish and laid-up snook in good numbers. Some days we’ve been able to slide into bonefish and even a few tailing permit after working the reds. It’s been a well-rounded mix that keeps rods bent all day.

Fly anglers have had fun throwing at singles and small groups, but live shrimp or small crabs pitched at bonefish and permit have been just as effective—especially when the fish are up and pushing.

If you’re still hunting tarpon, the 30–60 lb class fish are hanging around the Keys and staging up for early morning feeds in the Glades. Timing is key—when the tide lines up, those rolling fish can be very cooperative. And of course, our resident tarpon aren’t going anywhere, so there’s always a shot at a laid-up fish or a surprise surface eat.

Looking Ahead: With stable weather, clean water, and light winds, it’s prime time to get on the water. Whether you’re after tailing bonefish or a last shot at summer tarpon, the options are wide open right now.

Late May Everglades National Park Fishing Charters and Biscayne Bay Adventures

5/30/2025

Late May fishing charters in Everglades National Park and Biscayne Bay offer some of the most exciting backcountry fishing experiences in South Florida. During a recent four-day Everglades fishing charter, I had the pleasure of guiding Jim from Arkansas on his first-ever trip to this world-renowned fishing destination. Having never caught snook, redfish, spotted sea trout, or tarpon, Jim was eager to experience what makes Everglades National Park fishing charters and Biscayne Bay fishing so legendary.

Jim's inaugural visit to Everglades National Park left him captivated by the pristine wilderness and incredible fishing opportunities that define this UNESCO World Heritage site. Throughout our multi-day Biscayne Bay and Everglades fishing adventure, his enthusiasm never wavered as we targeted the diverse species that make South Florida backcountry fishing charters so popular among serious anglers.

Tarpon Fishing Charters in Everglades National Park
Our Everglades tarpon fishing produced multiple hookups with magnificent 40-50 pound silver kings, the hallmark of any premier Everglades National Park fishing charter. While we successfully landed several of these incredible fish, tarpon fishing remains the ultimate challenge - these powerful fighters are known for their acrobatic jumps and line-breaking runs that test both angler skill and equipment. Everglades National Park tarpon fishing charters during late May provide consistent opportunities to battle these legendary gamefish in their pristine backcountry habitat.

Snook, Redfish, and Trout on Biscayne Bay Fishing Charters
Beyond our tarpon success, our Biscayne Bay fishing charters and Everglades backcountry adventures targeted the famous "inshore slam" species that make South Florida fishing so diverse. I guided Jim to a productive honey hole that produces exceptional results when tidal conditions align perfectly. This secret spot, accessible only through experienced Everglades National Park fishing guides, delivered exactly what we hoped for during our backcountry fishing expedition.

Our Biscayne Bay snook fishing proved incredibly productive, with multiple aggressive strikes from these iconic South Florida gamefish. The redfish action complemented our snook success perfectly, while spotted sea trout rounded out an exceptional day of Everglades and Biscayne Bay fishing. These species represent the core targets for most South Florida inshore fishing charters, and late May conditions create ideal opportunities for multi-species success.

June Fishing Outlook for Everglades and Biscayne Bay Charters
As we transition into June, both Everglades National Park fishing charters and Biscayne Bay fishing expeditions will continue delivering exceptional results despite rising summer temperatures. Experienced Everglades fishing guides know that warming waters actually increase fish activity levels, making gamefish more aggressive and willing to strike various baits and lures.

The diverse baitfish populations in both Everglades National Park and Biscayne Bay waters create competitive feeding situations that benefit charter fishing clients. Snook fishing charters, redfish expeditions, tarpon adventures, and multi-species backcountry trips all benefit from the increased activity levels that characterize June fishing in South Florida.

Epic Islamorada and Everglades National Park Action

5/23/2025

What an epic week of fishing! This week started the 2025 Golden Fly out of Islamorada! Thinking second time guiding in this amazing event! Such a privilege to have been asked by my client to fish this event two years in a  row! This tournament has some do the best anglers and the best of the best guides in the tarpon fishing industry! We were blessed with amazing weather and great fishing!

These  days are long grueling days! We started pre fishing and hooked some great fish. We jumped around in the ocean coming across a hundred or so daisy chaining  tarpon here in islamorada! It’s always an amazing sight to see! These can be the hardest fish to get to eat a fly in my opinion but it’s so cool to watch them do their thing! We ran all over the place from middle keys to Everglades city and Everglades national park in search of happy hungry tarpon!

The bite was incredible! The hardest part was getting the tarpon to stay hooked up on fly! But we had double digits eats everyday day! The most being 26 eats before noon!

While tarpon fishing we did see a bunch of snook and permit swimming around although not what we are targeting it’s great to see the fishery is alive and happy!

Will be fishing this coming week and getting ready for the 2025 Don hawley tarpon invitational as well! Stay tuned!

Summer Tarpon and Snook Fishing: Why Biscayne Bay Fishing Charters Are Best in the Heat

Picture
BISCAYNE BAY SUMMER FISHING REPORT
Summer fishing on Biscayne Bay delivers some of the most exciting angling opportunities of the entire year. While many anglers retreat indoors during the warmer months, experienced charter captains know that summer presents unmatched fishing conditions for those willing to embrace the season.

Target Species and Summer Patterns:

Tarpon - Biscayne Bay transforms into tarpon central during summer months. These magnificent silver kings migrate through the bay in large schools, offering world-class sight fishing and heart-stopping aerial displays. The shallow flats and channels provide perfect ambush points where these giants feed on abundant baitfish. Live crabs, pilchards, and mullet produce explosive strikes that create memories lasting a lifetime.

Snook - Summer brings peak snook activity throughout Biscayne Bay's extensive mangrove coastline and structure. These aggressive predators position themselves around docks, bridges, and oyster bars where they ambush unsuspecting prey. The warmer water temperatures increase their metabolism, making them more active feeders and willing to strike both live bait and artificial lures.

Redfish - The shallow grass flats of Biscayne Bay become redfish highways during summer. These copper-colored fighters cruise the shallows in small schools, often with their backs and tails visible above the surface. Sight fishing for tailing redfish represents some of the most exciting shallow water angling available anywhere in South Florida.

Permit - Biscayne Bay's crystal-clear flats attract permit during summer months, offering challenging sight fishing opportunities for these notoriously finicky fish. Their preference for crabs and shrimp makes live bait presentations essential for consistent success.

Bonefish - The "gray ghosts" of the flats become more active during summer, cruising the turtle grass beds and sandy areas in search of crustaceans and small fish. Their exceptional wariness and lightning-fast runs make them a prized catch for experienced anglers.

Why Choose Deep South Fishing Charters for Your Biscayne Bay Fishing Experience:

Our Biscayne Bay fishing charters are specifically designed to maximize your summer fishing success. Our experienced captains possess intimate knowledge of seasonal fish behavior and know exactly where to find active fish during varying conditions. We understand that summer fishing requires strategic timing and location selection to ensure comfort and productivity.

The reduced boat traffic during summer months means access to prime fishing spots without the crowds typical of peak tourist season. This translates to more water to ourselves and better fishing opportunities for our clients.

Summer conditions on Biscayne Bay often produce calmer morning waters, making it an ideal time for anglers of all experience levels, including families with children or those new to saltwater fishing. The predictable weather patterns allow for better trip planning and more consistent fishing conditions.

Biscayne Bay Fishing Advantages:

Biscayne Bay's unique ecosystem creates a perfect storm of fishing opportunities during summer. The bay's shallow flats, mangrove shorelines, and deep channels provide diverse habitat that supports an incredible variety of fish species. The consistent water temperatures and abundant baitfish populations keep predator fish active and feeding throughout the summer months.

The bay's protection from ocean swells creates ideal fishing conditions even when offshore waters become rough. This sheltered environment allows for precision sight fishing and accurate bait presentations that would be impossible in rougher waters.

Don't miss out on some of the year's best fishing opportunities. Book your Biscayne Bay fishing charter with Deep South Fishing Charters and experience why summer is the perfect time to target these incredible fish species.

Tarpon Season Explodes: Islamorada, Everglades National Park, and Biscayne Bay Fishing Report Shows Epic Action as Winds Finally Calm

5/16/2025

The bite is getting hotter and hotter! Finally had some break in the wind here in islamorada Florida and Everglades national park! We have been targeting mostly tarpon on our trips in fly and spin tackle! Angeles have been sending these amazing creatures in the air int early morning time and throughout the afternoon! This time fingers I focus on the back country in Everglades national park due to the less pressure on the fish and the ease of getting them to eat!

However, tarpon have been swimming down the Oceanside in islamorada and throughout the entire Florida keys! These migratory fish can be hard to feed. They are targeted by fly fisherman that want a challenge. The eats have been epic!

Since its tarpon season that means bone  fishing has been fantastic here south Florida through Biscayne   bay and the Florida keys! We did have a little fun event this week out of islamorada and we targeted the back country species such as snook, tarpon, bonefish, permit, trout and redfish! The kids did awesome catching some great fish!

As we settle into some warmer weather and predictable wind and rain the bite will continue to get better and better!

Have been on the water non-stop keeping up with the Tarpon and preparing for the Golden Fly one of the 4 largest tarpon  fly fishing events here in islamorada! Looking forward to what the next week has to offer!

Everglades National Park & Biscayne Bay Fishing Charters - Latest Report

5/3/2025

Chasing Tarpon in Everglades National park this past week has been nothing short of nonstop action! The water temperatures remain just warm enough to keep the fish happy. The wind hasn’t laid down much making it a challenge, but we have been working through it.

A few clients, fishing fly rods, hooked a couple fish as well as my next couple of clients the following two days which went 0/5 on spinning rods. Unfortunately they were unable to land the fish and get them to the boat for a nice picture. Nonetheless they are chewing!

I ended up fishing the final day of the week with two of the spinning rod clients out in Biscayne Bay National Park, because they wanted to be around more clear water for some sight fishing opportunities. We decided to chase Bonefish and Permit! Fortunately enough for James and Kye, who had never caught one before, they were able to wrangle in 3 Bonefish and 1 massive Permit of about 25+ pounds. Incredible times with these gentleman and can’t wait until next time!

Thanks,
Capt. Austin Abercrombie

Biscayne Bay Fishing Charters: Epic Spring Tarpon and Bonefish Action Heats Up

4/24/2025

Let's talk about Biscayne Bay National Park being absolutely ON FIRE right now! Whether you're booking a fly fishing charter or spin tackle fishing charter, the action is reaching peak season intensity across all species.

This past week's fishing charters delivered exceptional variety. I had the pleasure of guiding a recurring client who specifically wanted to target oceanside tarpon on his charter. Our persistence paid off with multiple encounters featuring schools of 50+ silver kings ready for action. Despite challenging winds and their notoriously selective feeding habits, these magnificent game fish are finally establishing consistent patterns. The opportunities for a trophy tarpon fishing charter are definitely there!

The following days brought a memorable multi-day fishing charter with a younger gentleman and his 83-year-old father. Their simple request? A good time and some bonefish action. Our charters delivered both objectives all three days! The Biscayne bonefish are widespread and actively feeding, providing consistent light tackle thrills throughout our charter area. We even encountered the unusual sight of a mutton snapper trailing a stingray across the flats – showcasing the incredible diversity these fishing charters can produce.

Stay tuned for next week's fishing charter report as I'll be guiding several clients into Everglades National Park, focusing exclusively on connecting with the legendary "Silver King" tarpon. These specialized tarpon fishing charters are prime booking opportunities during this peak migration period.

For those looking to experience Biscayne Bay's exceptional spring fishing, now is the time to secure your charter dates before the prime calendar spots fill completely!
