Wow! What a stellar day for these dudes! In between windy days we finally enjoyed a day with not a breathe of wind! It sounds nice at first but that heat creeps up on you! But we got it done! Surronded by tarpon all morning they were chewing on everything! We started catching great size snoo!k! Our fishery currently is on fire. Of course some want to target tarpon but the other species are happy as can be right now! Whether we thorw fly or artificial lures on spinning rods we are having fantastic fish days! Lets get out there or call me for up to date report. Fishing so much lately that I have not had time to post here or social media.. Give me a call!

Starting the New Year out right!
On the first day of the Year I had my returning clients from over the years Rick and his son Adam out on the skiff for two epic days of Fishing! They come down every year to camp in Everglades National Park out of Flamingo National Park! Every year has been a great experience but this year was even better! The week leading up to fishing our weather was not your typical weather in Sunny South Florida! We had massive cold front over the entire state. They say it was the coldest Christmas that the US has seen in a long time. So that made our water temps drop significantly and fast! Which does not help our gamefish to survive! Hearing of die off fish like snook I was worried that we were repeating another 2010 freeze. But i had a game plan! We were launching the boat and went with our game plan of fishing north creeks and banks for our sought after species of Snook, Redfish, Black Drum and Tarpon! The morning started off epic, Catching numerous nice healthy Redfish and a few decent snook. We fished for couple hours and decided to go run for warmer water in search of tarpon! Well we found just that but in the process we came across massive schools of Permit finning on the surface of the Slicked out Gulf of mexico! So we had to stop and give it a try! Chasing the schools we ended up Hooking 2 solid permit. After those long battles on light weight tackle we decided to finishing hitting a few creeks for more species before heading in to hit a few tarpon spots. We ended up catching a few sheepshead and black drum and lots of rat reds and few decent redfish. When we left we hit a few spots for juvenile tarpon and ended up jumping a handful. While headed in the guys were stoke about fishing again in the next few days! Rick mentioned it was another solid year of fishing together and every year we keep topping the last! I look forward to fishing them two in the years to come! Lets get out on the water and fish! Another great Tuesday is Everglades National Park for Scott! Started out the morning poling the edges of flats waiting for the water to start rushing in with the Tide and man did it work-out for us! Right off the back the redfish were hungry! All fish were just sitting still on the edges of holes just waiting for something to swim by. After catching a few reds on the incoming we switched our gears to fishing pot holes on the flats for snook and they were just as Happy! For the day we caught lots of redfish and snook and few trout and pulled the hook a few times on tailing black drum! This is my favorite time of year for poling the flats or live baiting creeks and runoffs! Lets get out on the water!
Danny and Pedro got it done on artificial today in the wind! Started out the morning poling the flats. Before I could jump up on the poling platform Pedro was hooked up with a Redfish. Right then I knew it was going to be a good day. We had the right wind that was helping clear the dirty water on the flats which is partly due to the west wind we had the day before and for the lack of grass beds that died off that are not there to help clean the water. So the water was fairly clear the entire time. We saw countless amounts of big Snook and Redfish blowing out of pockets. The boys started seeing the fish before they blew out and when they did they hooked up every time. We only poled for a few hours before we decided to go see more of Everglades National Park. We cam across some nice Snook. We caught a few and broke off a few. Found a few laid up tarpon but they were more interested in blowing up Tarpon and the wind picked up at that time which made the fish want to sit lower in the water column. In all we had a great day on the water and the guys look forward to fishing again real soon! The fishing will continue to get better as we get more into spring and closer to summer! I can not wait to see what the next 5-7 months bring to us! Still have a few dates open for the end of April so give me a call and lets get out there whether its bait, artificial or fly. Tight Lines!
This past weekend was the Annual Hell's Bay Owners fishing tournament and get together out of Islamorada, Florida. It is always a great event to get everyone together to have drinks and share fish stories and also do a little competitive fishing as well! As usual when you say tournament its like the wind hears you and decides to blow. But that did not stop my recent Hells Bay owners from catching fish! They stuck it out, catching over 30 reds and 20 snook. We saw tarpon and bonefish but they just were not happily eating. We set out from Anglers House Marina and head out to catch the Redfish and Snook in the glades so we could target the other species near mainland when wind calmed down. Man it was pretty intense making it across Florida Bay to the coast! We started catching fish as soon as the first line was thrown! We continued to fish the areas until we though we had enough to go after other species! We got back to mainland area and hit a few flats that hold fish and we saw a bonefish but just spooked fast! It was a great tournament! At the end of the day we all were having dinner as the awards started and it turned out the my man Luke won Top Junior Angler of the event! He was stoked! I knew we caught an abundant amount of fish and had a good chance of winning something and we did! Great first event dude!
In the past few years I have been expanding my knowledge of fisheries to learn new areas and learn new things! I have been fortunate enough to fish some of the areas that I dreamt about fishing as a kid! One of those areas in Chokoloskee and the 10,000 Islands! These fisheries are always surprising! There are plenty of happy fish as well as some slobs that hang around! It defiantly is worth checking out. The fishing is heating up of there! We threw fly all day catching redfish, snook, trout and tiny micropoons due to the wind was just crazy on the edge. But it was still an awesome day to be on the water and fishing the glades!
Brett and Austin came down with friends and a group of us took them all out fishing for a great competitive day on the water! We started the run from Breezy Palms in Islamorada and headed to the secret spots! The conditions were not the best but the fish were still happily willing to take what we were throwing at them! These two guys had an awesome time fishing and seeing the sights! The hooked numerous snook, trout, and redfish! They also jumped a few Tarpon which was the icing on the cake!
It was a Great two days of fishing with father/son duo Greg and Jacob! Flew on a red eye straight to the Glades to do a little fishing! Before the the trip they both mentioned that catching quantity and variety of fish was the game plan! They did just that! We lost count of the number of redfish and snook we hooked up with! I couldnt keep up baiting hooks fast enough as fish were coming in the boat! They caught Redfish, Snook, Black drum, sheepshead, tarpon, jacks, snapper, and the rare ladyfish! Had a Blast showing them what early spring time fishing in the glades is all about! Jacob mention when he finishes school he wants to move to the glades in south florida and fish everyday! Look forward to fishing these two again in the future! Here are a few photos from out adventure in the glades!
Hey there anglers! Trying to catch up on some fishing reports and before I knew it winter was over and now we are getting into spring! Winter fishing in the Everglades and Florida Keys has been spectacular! The fish have eating non-stop from inshore to offshore! A majority of my clients were in search of the Late winter tarpon fishing! Through January and parts of February the fishing was super hot having double digit hook-ups daily! This is the normal routine in later winter and spring in the Everglades! In Downtown Miami at night the tarpon fishing is pretty solid year round weather pending. In the Back-country we are throwing flies and artificial lures for the eat. While the Tarpon fishing was steady so was the other inshore species. Catching upwards of 20-30 Snook and Redfish a day and mixing in Sheepshead and Black drum as well as occasional Cobia and Tripletail. So busy fishing that i slacked on posting picture as well! Now lets get to Spring time fishing! With the Tarpon still stacked up from Miami to Key West and the migration starting up we will be casting at laid up Tarpon in the glades to the strings of Tarpon down the coast in the keys on fly. Bridge fishing for the Tarpon is starting up as well. Catching a mixed bag of Permit and Sharks while waiting for the Tarpon. The Back-country will continue to be red hot with the big laid up Snook coming out for some of the action and the Reds! This time of year is my favorite time to fish the deep brackish waters of the Everglades for those species when not out hunting the Silver King! Now on to the offshore side of things. The Sword fishing has been phenomenal lately and will continue to be! We have about a month or two left of great sail fishing. Most the time the kites are in the air holding are bait at the waters surface but nothing beats seeing a sailfish rip through the surface chasing schools of bait and pitching a bait and hooking up. Possibly the best sight-fishing I have ever experienced. With the cooler days we have been having the King-fish bite has been decent, nothing like running back to dock and seeing them crush on the surface. Makes for quick grocery shopping. As we get more into spring time the snapper will start to spawn and soon as may and June hit the big mangrove snapper and Mutton Snapper will come out to play. By far the best tasting snapper there is that we catch here! You will not be disappointed when frying up a batch of Mutton's for dinner! Whether you are looking to target inshore species or offshore give us a call or email and lets get you out of the water for the best spring time and summer fishing here in South Florida! Hey there anglers!
With the Hurricane upon us the fishing will continue to be great and it should help set off the bait run a little more! Fishing in the backcountry has been phenomenal for fly fishing and baitfishing! Few of the big tarpon are around so if your patient enough and wanna wait a catch one there are opportunities! Snook and Redfishing all up and down the coast has been solid. The fish super happy and ready to eat what ever swims there way! It is going to be a great season for us here in Evergladrd National Park! So the back country fish are hungry and waiting. On the offhsore side of things the sailfish are starting to show up more and more each day! With the wind supposed to be out of the west with this storm then the water will be great not to rough. Lets get you out there and on the water to make memories! |
