Starting the New Year out right!
On the first day of the Year I had my returning clients from over the years Rick and his son Adam out on the skiff for two epic days of Fishing! They come down every year to camp in Everglades National Park out of Flamingo National Park! Every year has been a great experience but this year was even better!
The week leading up to fishing our weather was not your typical weather in Sunny South Florida! We had massive cold front over the entire state. They say it was the coldest Christmas that the US has seen in a long time. So that made our water temps drop significantly and fast! Which does not help our gamefish to survive! Hearing of die off fish like snook I was worried that we were repeating another 2010 freeze. But i had a game plan!
We were launching the boat and went with our game plan of fishing north creeks and banks for our sought after species of Snook, Redfish, Black Drum and Tarpon! The morning started off epic, Catching numerous nice healthy Redfish and a few decent snook. We fished for couple hours and decided to go run for warmer water in search of tarpon! Well we found just that but in the process we came across massive schools of Permit finning on the surface of the Slicked out Gulf of mexico! So we had to stop and give it a try! Chasing the schools we ended up Hooking 2 solid permit. After those long battles on light weight tackle we decided to finishing hitting a few creeks for more species before heading in to hit a few tarpon spots. We ended up catching a few sheepshead and black drum and lots of rat reds and few decent redfish. When we left we hit a few spots for juvenile tarpon and ended up jumping a handful.
While headed in the guys were stoke about fishing again in the next few days! Rick mentioned it was another solid year of fishing together and every year we keep topping the last! I look forward to fishing them two in the years to come!
Lets get out on the water and fish!
